Parvinder Awana finally left for the West Indies on Sunday after visa issues postponed his departure for the tour. India A have already begun their campaign in the Caribbean and Awana would join them during their ongoing game against West Indies A.

The main reason for Awana’s late departure was the United Kingdom transit visa. A Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official told Times of India, “The team reaches Heathrow airport first and then takes a flight from Gatwick for the West Indies, which is why it takes a little more time for the visa clearance.”

Earlier, the Kings XI Punjab pacer was selected in the India A squad to replace an injured Rudra Pratap Singh for the tour to West Indies. Awana is was of the leading wicket-takers in the recent edition of Indian Premier League.

RP Singh who played for Mumbai Indians suffered an injury on his right knee and had been advised a week’s rest after which he was scheduled for rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy. Singh’s selection for the tour was widely criticized as the former India bowler had an ordinary domestic season as he had taken only 14 wickets in seven Ranji Trophy games.
