Patrick Cummins on Sunday said Australia are much better side than what the ICC Twenty20 Rankings may suggest, which they will prove in the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup starting September 18 in Sri Lanka.

Patrick Cummins on Sunday said Australia are much better side than what the ICC Twenty20 Rankings may suggest, which they will prove in the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup starting September 18 in Sri Lanka.
Cummins said, “In terms of ranking for Twenty20, I don’t think we are anywhere near where we should be. We are a much better side than that and I think in the World Cup we will show that.”
The 19-year-old almost pulled off a spectacular victory for Australia in the second T20 by hitting a six off the penultimate ball during their chase, but got dismissed on the last ball which resulted in the match going for a Super Over finish.
In the Super Over, Cummins was impressive barring one ball which helped Pakistan level the score. Umar Akmal then took a quick single to seal win for Pakistan on the last delivery.
Recalling those tense moments, Cummins said, “Looking back, I don’t think I would have changed anything. I was pretty disappointed I got out after hitting the six, but I think I would bowl the same way again.”
“I was pretty relaxed after hitting the six. I thought the worst that could happen is we would go into a Super Over. I told myself to bat just two metres down the crease and don’t hit it up. Obviously, I got a leading edge and was very disappointed,” Cummins told Gulf News.
Talking about the delivery that bounced over the head to be called a wide, Cummins said, “I was trying to mix it up and not be predictable. I wanted to bowl a short one, but unfortunately it tennis-balled and went over the batsman’s head.
“It works for you sometimes, and sometimes it doesn’t. Just one of those things I guess,” he added.
