Amul, known for its clever and witty interpretation of many issues is at it again. This time Amul recognises Gujarat captain Parthiv Patel’s efforts in helping his side to their first ever Ranji Trophy title. Parthiv scored 90 and 143 in Ranji Trophy 2016-17 final to ensure Gujarat beat the 41-time champions Mumbai in the final at Pune. Earlier, Parthiv also made a triumphant return to India’s Test squad after a long gap and marked his return by scoring a couple of fifties as India won the five-match series against England 4-0. Parthiv has now clearly made himself as the first-choice wicketkeeper in the Indian side for the future Tests after Wriddhiman Saha’s injury paved way from his to get back into the national side.
Parthiv finished with a total of 763 runs in 8 matches at 58.69 in the tournament. He also scored a couple of tons and also as many as five half-centuries. His teammate and opening batsman Priyank Panchal finished as the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 1,310 runs in 17 innings at 87.33 with highest score of 314 not out. Rush Kalaria with 26 wickets was Gujarat’s leading wicket-taker. However, it was left-arm orthodox bowler Shahbaz Nadeem of Jharkhand, who finished as the leading wicket-taker of this edition of the Ranji Trophy with 56 wickets in 10 matches.

Gujarat now have another shot of winning a trophy this season. They will take on the Rest of India (ROI) side, led by Cheteshwar Pujara at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, beginning from January 20 in the Irani Trophy. Naman Ojha-led ROI had chased down a record target previous year to beat Mumbai at Brabourne Stadium.
