The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is concerned over young fast bowler Ihsanullah’s protracted recovery from an elbow ailment, which has continued for a year.
Senior officials are upset with Ihsanullah’s recent actions, especially after he refuted his father’s comments, a trustworthy PCB source told PTI.
Ihsanullah’s father visited Lahore a few weeks ago to speak with PCB authorities, demanding that his son continue his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) rather than at his birthplace of Swat. He told the press that Ihsanullah also wanted to stay at the NCA for his recovery.
But the next day, in stark contrast to his father’s assertion, 21-year-old Ihsanullah tweeted that he felt fine carrying out his rehabilitation in Swat and did not see the need to go to Lahore.
“The board officials are worried with the sincerity and hard work Ihsan is putting into his rehab program which was designed for him by experts after he was sent to the UK for an appointment with a specialist,” the source said.
He said that an impartial medical panel headed by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi recommended that Ihsanullah continue his rehabilitation in Swat under the guidance of a designated trainer.
The insider stated, “But there is growing concern over whether Ihsanullah himself is taking his rehab process seriously, especially with fitness tests to be held before the Champions Cup domestic event.”
Before sustaining an elbow injury, Ihsanullah showed promise as a player for Pakistan in the Pakistan Super League of the previous year. He was rapidly included in the national white-ball squad for T20 and ODI matches.
Following the formation of an independent panel to examine the diagnosis and recommended course of treatment for the fast bowler, Dr. Sohail Saleem, the PCB’s head of the medical panel, resigned due to the way in which the injury was handled with Ihsanullah.
