The Pakistan Cricket Board as part of its long-term plan to overhaul the national team management and coaching staff, has began its hunt for a bowling coach keeping strict eligibility requirements for the interested candidates.
The PCB has posted an advertisement on its official website inviting interested candidates to send in their resumes by March 22 after it was forced to look for a bowling coach with the resignation of former Test pacer Aaqib Javed, who has now taken up the role of head coach with the UAE national cricket team on more lucrative terms and conditions.
As expected the board has invited foreign candidates also to apply for the post, which is seen by many experts and former players as a key position in the national team.
“The candidate has to be a level three qualified coach and must have at least five years experience of having worked in a similar position with elite cricketers,” a board official said.
The official also said since the board was now moving towards upgrading its National Cricket Academy coaching panel and reorganising the coaching staff with the national team, the interested candidates also needed to possess organisational and executing skills, besides being strategic and operational planners.
The PCB recently appointed Australian Dav Whatmore as its head coach and also brought in Englishman Julian Fountain as specialist fielding coach with the national team.
Indications are that Whatmore would have a big say in the selection of the bowling coach as the board gears up to prepare a strong team for the next World Cup.
“Obviously Whatmore’s input will matter a lot but at the same time we have kept this initial process for screening interested candidates,” the board official said.
PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf has repeatedly said that it is time that the Pakistan team also had a professional coaching staff so that the immense talent in the country can be identified and groomed properly. (PTI)
