Australia pace bowler Peter Siddle has crossed the landmark of 500 wickets in first-class cricket. Playing for Essex  in the County Championship, Siddle finished off Somerset’s first innings with 5/80, the last of which took him to 500.

Siddle, 33, entered the match between Essex and Somerset on 495 wickets in a first-class career that began in November 2005. During this time, he broke into Australia’s Test team and claimed 211 wickets in 62 matches from 2008 and 2016.

His next best returns have been for his state side Victoria: 176 first-class wickets at an average of 25.34 with career-best returns of 8/54. In county cricket, Siddle has taken 25 wickets for Essex, 37 for Nottinghamshire and 18 for Lancashire.

The remainder of Siddle’s 500 first-class wickets have come for Australia A (13) and when playing tour matches for representative Australian sides (20).
