Former Australia pace bowler Peter Siddle has crossed the landmark of 500 wickets in first-class cricket. Playing for Essex in the County Championship, Siddle finished off Somerset s first innings with 5/80, the last of which took him to 500.

Siddle, 33, entered the match between Essex and Somerset on 495 wickets in a first-class career that began in November 2005. During this time, he broke into Australia s Test team and claimed 211 wickets in 62 matches from 2008 and 2016.

His next best returns have been for his state side Victoria: 176 first-class wickets at an average of 25.34 with career-best returns of 8/54. In county cricket, Siddle has taken 25 wickets for Essex, 37 for Nottinghamshire and 18 for Lancashire.

The remainder of Siddle’s 500 first-class wickets have come for Australia A (13) and when playing tour matches for representative Australian sides (20).
