The first match of IPL 2016 campaign saw wives of MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma get together and click a selfie. While all these 3 ladies would have been cheering each other’s husbands a few days back, this game meant it was Sakshi Dhoni and Radhika Dhopavkar vs Ritika Sajdeh. The match, which was eventually won by the newcomers Rising Pune Supergiants, saw a mediocre performance from Rohit’s Mumbai Indians. In front of the home crowd, MI started off poorly, losing 5 wickets in the first 10 overs and ending up with just 121 in their 20 overs, thanks to a late blitz by Harbhajan Singh. Earlier, Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat in front of the packed Wankhede stadium in the first match of the IPL 2016. The MI got off to a very poor start, losing wickets every other over. After 10 overs, MI found themselves in a vulnerable position, 5 wickets down. Only a brilliant 30 ball 45 by Harbhajan Singh made sure MI reached 121 after 20 overs.
RPS in their reply, made a cautious start, scoring 23 runs in the first over. But soon, Faf du Plessis and Rahane broke loose, scoring 28 runs in the next two overs to end the powerplay at 51 for no loss. Soon Harbhajan came onto bowl, and did a bit of magic with bowl, removing du Plessis for 34. And out came Kevin Peitersen, who along with Rahane counter-attacked the bowlers, and made sure their side chased down the target with 32 balls to spare.
