Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court today dismissed as “withdrawn” a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking to restrain senior Congress leader Rajiv Shukla from functioning as Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and give directions for setting up a committee to probe alleged financial irregularities during his tenure. A division bench, comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Yashwant Verma, passed the order after pointing out that the petitioner Rudrakant Mishra, an advocate, had not produced any “concrete documents in support of the PIL”. The petitioner had, besides the aforementioned prayers, requested for directions “to frame a completely transparent mechanism for selection of cricket players on the basis of merit” and quashing of an MoU signed in June this year whereby the state government had agreed to lease out Kanpur-based Green Park Stadium to UPCA. The court has, however, told the petitioner that he was “at liberty to file a fresh petition along with supporting documents”. Shukla had earlier stated that the talks of a possibility of Indo-Pak series has not derailed yet. “The talks regarding an Indo-Pak bilateral series have not derailed yet and we will continue anytime after the India-South Africa series ends,” he told the Daily Dawn newspaper. The talks between Shashank Manohar and Shahryar Khan was protested by Shiv Sena and as a result it has been postponed casting a doubt over the participation of the Pakistan team even in the upcoming ICC World T20 2016.
