PM Narendra Modi shares some joyous moment with members of 1996 World Cup-winning Sri Lankan cricket team
Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Sri Lanka on Friday night, and met with the 1996 World Cup-winning members of the Sri Lankan team on Saturday.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day official visit to Sri Lanka, and arrived there on Friday night for bilateral discussions and signing of several major pacts between the two nations. PM Modi even had some interaction with members of 1996 World Cup-winning Sri Lankan team, stating that the victory was the imagination of countless sports lovers.
After landing in Sri Lanka on Friday night, PM Modi, on Saturday, met the members of he Sri Lankan World Cup-winning team that had defeated the Australian team by seven wickets in the final at Lahore.

“Cricket connect! Delighted to interact with members of the 1996 Sri Lankan cricket team, which won the World Cup that year. This team captured the imagination of countless sports lovers!” wrote the PM on ‘X’.
On that occasion, the members of the winning side, including Kumara Dharmasena, Aaravinda de Silva, Sanath Jayasuriya, Chaminda Vaas, Upul Chandana and Marvan Atapattu resented PM Modi with a memento.
“In Colombo, PM @narendramodi interacted with the members of the 1996 Sri Lankan cricket team, which won the World Cup that year. Here are a few glimpses from their interaction,” wrote the PM’s official account while posting images of the interaction.

In the final that was played on March 17, Sri Lanka successfully chased down the total score of 241/7 posted by Australia, and did it for just the loss of just three wickets.
