Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, who suffered a injury to his left little finger during the third Ashes Test against England last December in Perth, has revealed that he had another operation on it after the 2011 World Cup and is yet to fully recover.

Ponting hurt his pinkie when attempting a catch at the second slip to dismiss Jonathan Trott. The then Australian skipper had to pull out from the final Test at Sydney to get the finger operated.

Now, as the Australian team gears up to take on Sri Lanka in three Tests, five ODIs and two Twenty20s, Ponting has revealed that he is still not ready to field at slips, The Australian reported.

Meanwhile, the former skipper says that he will share his vast knowledge of the subcontinent with Michael Clarke.

“I am just a player in the team now and if Michael or any of the boys want advice I am just going to be there to give it to them when asked,” Ponting says.

“My time of being in charge – those days are over and I will just sit over in the corner and make sure I prepare well for every game and out on the field if there is advice I am being asked for I will be more than happy to give it.”
