Poonam Raut, Mithali Raj help India Women thrash South Africa Women to clinch Quadrangular Series 2017

India Women thrashed South Africa by 8 wickets and 102 balls to spare in the Quadrangular Series 2017 final at Potchefstroom to register a commanding victory. Poonam Raut continued her rich form into this match, top-scoring with an unbeaten 70 off 92 deliveries. Skipper Mithali Raj batted well too, finishing with 62 not out off 79 balls. Poonam and Mithali put up an unbeaten 127-run stand for the third wicket to help India to a comfortable win. Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp were the only wicket-takers for South Africa. South Africa would have felt being in the game after reducing India to 33 for 2 in the 12th over. However, Mithali and Poonam took charge and took the game away from South Africa from there onwards. Earlier, South Africa Women were bowled out for 156 in 40.2 overs, after being put into bat by India Women. Jhulan Goswami and Poonam Yadav picked up 3 wickets apiece, Shikha Pandey picked up 2, while Deepti Sharma and Ekta Bisht snapped up 1 wicket each. As far as the South Africa batters are concerned Sune Luus in her 50th match for her nation top-scored with 55, While Mignon du Preez scored 30. South Africa were going well. They were 90 for 2 at one point, but some excellent bowling from India saw them getting bowled out for a cheap score.

India have had a tremendous run in this tournament. Their 16 matches unbeaten run was broken after South Africa beat them in the previous match, which was India’s only loss in the tournament.
