Praveen Kumar to start new innings in politics by joining Samajwadi Party

Asked whether he would contest the state assembly polls for Samajwadi Party, Praveen Kumar said, "I am a kid in this field. As of now I will try to learn it [politics]."

Lucknow: Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, cricketer Praveen Kumar on Sunday joined the Samajwadi Party (SP). “I have met CM and decided to join the party. I will do whatever is possible for the party,” he told reporters after meeting Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who is also state president of SP. Asked whether he would contest the state assembly polls, Kumar said, “I am a kid in this field. As of now I will try to learn it [politics].” Heaping praise on Yadav, Kumar, who hails from Meerut, said, he has done a lot for sportsmen and big stadiums are under construction at Lucknow and Saifai. Besides sports, the right-arm medium-pace bowler said, the chief minister has done a lot of work for all round development of the state. Meanwhile, Praveen Kumar has faced a lot of ups and down in his cricket career. However, after a fine domestic season with Uttar Pradesh and a decent tournament so far in the Indian Premier League (IPL) edition , the 29-year old known for his swing bowling, hopes that he can make a comeback into the Indian Cricket Team. He said – “I have been consistently doing well in all formats in domestic cricket, and I hope I will make it to Team India again one day,” Praveen has been consistent with his line and length in the IPL and now has 82 wickets, including 7 this season, in 109 IPL matches.
