A letter sent by Mazgaon Cricket Club addressed to the Joint Secretary of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) said that Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan will represent the club, which has voting rights, at all the meetings henceforth with effect from the date of submission of the letter.

September 17 was the last date for the clubs to inform the MCA of its representatives before the biennial elections to be held on October 18 reported The Hindu.

The aforementioned club was represented by late Vilasrao Deshmukh who beat Dilip Vengsarkar in 2011. Deshmukh’s appointment was backed by Sharad Pawar who was BCCI and ICC president.

With Chavan throwing in the hat in the presidency race it will be interesting to see how the elections pan out. Vijay Patil , vice-president of MCA has backed Pawar as the president.

Shahalam Sheikh, one of the two authorized signatories of the Mazgaon Cricket Club, said, “We have done our job of making Shri Chavan as the representative of the club. It is for him to decide whether he should run for the presidency of the MCA.”
