Zimbabwe’s Prosper Utseya joins the list of off-spinners to be banned by International Cricket Council (ICC) for illegal bowling action. Utseya is an important player for Zimbabwe, and had recently taken a hat-trick against South Africa. He had also combined well with Elton Chigumbura to help Zimbabwe seize an upset victory over Australia.

Earlier, Utseya had said that his action was different from Saeed Ajmal. “My bowl action is different from his, but I have to face the fact there is only two possible outcomes that either I am guilty or I am not, but I am confident of my actions and in my entire playing career I have never intentionally tried to bring the game into disrepute.”, he had said.

“The International Cricket Council today confirmed that an independent analysis has found the bowling actions of Gazi and Utseya to be illegal and, as such, both off-spinners have been suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect,” read a statement by the ICC.
