JP Duminy‘s unbeaten quickfire innings of 54-ball 73 powered Islamabad United to the top the of the PSL 2018 points table. The won their fifth game in tournament by 26 runs against Peshawar Zalmi. Duminy also got support from Asif Ali with his cameo of 24-ball 45. Samit Patel later defended the total of 182 by scalping 4 wickets for 34. Zafar Gohar, too, assisted Patel as he ended with figures of 3 for 25. Their combined efforts restricted Peshawar Zalmi to 156 for 9 in 20 overs.
Zalmi’s top and middle-order withered out under pressure. Kamran Akmal and Andre Fletcher’s promising start in chase was nipped in the bud by Samit, who picked three wickets on either side of the batting powerplay. The openers and Dwayne Smith were sent back to the hut with just 53 on board. After Patel’s exploits, Gohar took over and claimed the wickets of Liam Dawson (0) and Darren Sammy (1). He then trapped Mohammad Hafeez for 13.
At that point, Zalmi were 92 for 8. Wahab Riaz then revived the innings with his 25-ball 33. Her added 55-run stand with Umai Asif. However, they fell short of reaching the target.
Earlier, Duminy’s innings was decorated with six fours and four sixes. After the dismissal of Luke Ronchi, Duminy and Hussain Talat rebuilt the innings. Peshawar Zalmi have another opportunity on Saturday to turn around their fortunes as they take on Quetta Gladiators in Match 23.
