Multan Sultans tried roping in Waqar Younis as their coach, in an attempt to reunite the lethal pair of Waqar and Wasim Akram. The duo had differences during their playing days and the franchises dream to re-unite the pair remained a dream when Waqar rejected the offer. According to reports, Waqar did not want to work under Akram, who is the team’s director of cricket. However, the franchise has moved on and appointed Tom Moody as the coach.
Akram, the team’s director of cricket, announced the appointment at a ceremony launch of Sultan’s kit.
“Tom Moody has great experience of coaching, especially for franchise-based cricket. His presence will lead Multan to new heights,” Akram said. Moody has earlier coached Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL and Rungpur Riders in BPL. The tall all-rounder has represented Australia in 8 Tests and 76 ODIs, and is one of the most celebrated coaches in the cricket fraternity.
Moody guided Sri Lanka to the final of the 2007 World Cup and recently enjoyed success with SRH when they won the IPL trophy in 2016.
A report from Cricbuzz quotes Moody express his glee through a video message. “ I am looking forward to being involved with Multan Sultans next year for the PSL and partnering-up with my old mate Wasim Akram. Great things ahead for the new side in the PSL. Looking forward to working with all the local talent and putting together a great team for the success in the future.
Asher Schon, the director of Multan Sultans, said, “I believe, in Tom, we have found the ideal man for this role. He possesses years of coaching experience with various franchises, which enables him to play a crucial role in nurturing young talent and player development.”
