Cricket Association of Puducherry registered their first Ranji Trophy victory as they secured a win by an innings and 238 runs over Cricket Association of Mizoram. Pankaj Singh followed his 7 for 21 in the first innings with 4 for 15 in the second. Mizoram, who resumed proceedings at 40 for 8 could add only five more runs before they were bowled out for 45 to help Puducherry secure seven points. Fabid Ahmed also picked up four wickets, in addition to scoring an unbeaten century. He finished with immaculate figures of 4 for 8.
Starting Day 3 at 163/3 with a lead of 71 runs, Puducherry batsman scored at fair clip. Veteran Abhiskek Nayar departed early in the day without adding anything to his overnight score of 17, but Fabid scored 103 off 153 balls and aided by Ranjit Bhaskaran’s 60-ball 44, Puducherry declared their innings at 375/8.
Ahmed and Baskaran put on 89 runs for the seventh wicket. Vengadeshwaran added an unbeaten 20. For Mizoram, Sinan Khadir picked 5/97. In their second dig, Mizoram faired poorly with top three batsman falling for zero. 0/3 became 5/4 when Ahmed claimed Lalhruaizela for 5. Nayar had claimed two wickets up front while Pankaj had removed opener Akhil Rajput.
Michael Lalremkima made 20 while Khadir added 10 before Ahmed removed Lalremkima and Pankaj added his ninth scalp of the match in the form of Khadir. Ahmed then picked two more wickets in the form of Saidingliana Sailo (1) and Lalhruai Ralte (0) as Mizoram ended day three, trailing Puducherry by 243 runs.
