Meanwhile, Manzoor Ahmad, QCA General-Secretary said, “Kuwait has a women’s team but they left for Thailand to take part in a tournament there, so they cannot take part in the Qatar tournament. Of the two other countries in GCC, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain don’t have cricket teams, so we had to go ahead with a three-nation tournament… We are awaiting a response from the teams to our proposal to host more GCC level international cricket tournaments. Our plan is to host more Under-19 and women tournaments for GCC teams.” QCA Vive-President Ronald Mendonca (who has served in QCA for a lengthy period) added, “We have been promoting the game of cricket in Qatar for the last several decades and we want to make it more popular and aim to reach out the local residents in a much bigger way.” ALSO READ: Pakistan women to host tri-series in Qatar
