In another injury blow to South Africa, wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock has been ruled out of the third Test between South Africa and England at Wanderers. South Africa are already reeling from injuries to players of the ilk of Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander. Reports of de Kock’s injury emerged only one and a half hour prior to start of the game and Dane Vilas is being flown in to cover for him. De Kock suffered the injury at home on eve of the Test said Dr Mohammaed Moosajee. This is not good news for South Africa who are 1-0 down in the series. Dane Vilas has been in great form in the domestic circuit and is coming on the back of an unbeaten 216 for Cape Cobras against Highveld Lions. He was given repeated chances during the India tour but failed to capitalise even once. But, it will be very interesting to see how he performs in conditions he is most familiar with.

England are 1-0 up in the series and will look to deal South Africa the hammer blow in the Wanderers Test and will be particularly upbeat about their prospects given the number of injuries South Africa are dealing with. Vilas will have to prove his worth in the batting area and can use his horde of experience in the domestic circuit to make a point. If it is any consolation for South Africa, de Kock did not perform too well in the second game so they are not putting much on stake.
