The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday appointed Rahul Dravid as Head Cricket, National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru to oversee all cricket related activities at NCA including mentoring, coaching, training and motivating players, coaches and support staff at the NCA.
This comes a week after a potential conflict of interest Dravid from taking charge at the NCA. Dravid is a paid employee of India Cements and as per the BCCI constitution, an individual can’t hold multiple positions at the same time, bringing the former India captain under the ambit of conflict of interest, and last month, the BCCI’s ethics officer D K Jain had ruled against VVS Laxman after Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association member Sanjeev Gupta alleged conflict of interest over the former India batsman holding multiple positions.
However, with BCCI’s appointment of Dravid he may have resign from India Cements to join NCA. ALSO READ: CoA to approach SC seeking clarity on conflict of interest issue
Dravid will work closely with the National Men’s and Women’s Head Coaches and Cricket Coaches for India Developmental teams – including India A, India Under 19, India Under 23 teams, in the identification of key training and development objectives. He will also be responsible for monitoring progress against these objectives for the developmental teams and provide necessary inputs on the same to the Senior Men’s and Women’s Head Coaches. The new role would mean that he won’t be able to travel with India A and U-19 teams as he used to. Former India pacer Paras Mhambrey and Abhay Sharma remain part of the junior team support staff.
