Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid turned 39 years on Wednesday.
Dravid, who celebrated his birthday in Perth along with the Indian team, jokingly talked about continuing playing cricket, “But till it’s 40, I am okay.”
Dravid had a successful 2011. He scored 1145 runs in 12 Test matches with 5 hundreds and 4 fifties.
On his Test debut against Sri Lanka in 1996, Dravid had a scored a magnificent 95. He is the third Indian to have scored 10, 000 runs after Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar and the sixth player in the world.
Dravid was appointed the captain of the Indian team in November 2005 and was at the helm of affairs till mid-2007.
He lead India to series win in West Indies in 2006, the first since 1971 and in England in 2007.
“In terms of just significance, in terms of what it meant for me, from having started my career and ended up at 95 at Lord’s, and then come back, Lord’s would have to be the favourite innings of this year,” Dravid said.
Talking about confidence, Dravid said, “Feeling good is important. Confidence can be a great thing. Sometimes things don’t go for you. You get a bad run, you get a couple of good balls, you lose a bit of confidence. Your mindset changes. How much ever you know that you need to change it, sometimes it doesn’t happen, until such a time that you can get actual confirmation in terms of runs on the ground. Even if it is an ugly hundred – an ugly big score sometimes maybe makes you feel confident when you are going out next time.”
Wishing Rahul Dravid a very Happy Birthday and lots of luck for the coming Test.
