Rahul Dravid conferred with Padma Bhushan

Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid was conferred with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award by President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday in Delhi.

Dravid and pugilist MC Mary Kom were given the award in the sports category this year.

40-year-old Dravid, one of India’s finest batsmen who scored close to 25,000 international runs before announcing his retirement early last year, was chosen for the coveted Padma Bhushan recognition, adding another feather to his already glittering cap.

Dravid, the former India captain scored 13,288 runs in 164 Tests with an average of 52.31 while he accumulated 10,889 in 344 ODIs, averaging 39.16.

Dravid is the third highest run-getter in Test history behind compatriot Sachin Tendulkar (15645) and Australia’s Ricky Ponting (13378).
