Let alone playing against India, Nepal, an Associate Nation, have not played an ODI yet. T20I is the only format they have had the honour of playing. Even there they have won only 3 out of 11 contests. However, these teams have locked horns at the Under-19 level, and until Sunday, India had won all the matches against Nepal.
The first win
In the ongoing U-19 Asia Cup 2017, Nepal edged past India by 19 runs at Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur. Captain Dipendra Singh’s 88 off 101 propelled Nepal to 185 for 8. In reply India’s openers added 65, and were on course to maintain a clean sheet. But India could not rise above Dipendra: his four-wicket haul skittled out India for 166.
Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Nepal coach Binod Kumar Das expressed how elated his team when Rahul Dravid sang their praise.
‘Happy Dravid acknowledges our effort’
“Dravid has been very humble. He congratulated us. He said we deserved this win as much as anybody else. He also said we played better than anybody else in the tournament. We are happy he acknowledges our effort. We are thrilled to have his support with us. We are all very excited about it because we have never beaten India at any level. Knowing India’s strength it is one of the biggest wins for us.”
