Rajiv Shukla, Board of Control for Cricket in India vice president, is tipped to take over from Chirayu Amin as the Indian Premier League commissioner after the latter informed the board that he won t be able to continue because lack of time.

According to The Indian Express, a top board official disclosed that Shukla s name came up during the IPL Governing Council meeting in Nagpur, and is expected to be confirmed at the BCCI s Annual General Meeting on September 19 and 20 in Mumbai.

“Chirayu Amin had explained his stand earlier too and couldn t give enough time as IPL chairman and commissioner. The members were keen to have a new commissioner on board for next term. Many members requested BCCI chief Shashank Manohar to replace him, as he is the ideal candidate and will be free from president s post after the AGM, but Manohar rejected the idea. So Shukla will replace him,” said an official.

The board wanted to appoint someone who is politically well-connected and is powerful for the job. Shukla, a minister of state, looks as an ideal candidate and specially at a time when the BCCI is facing a probe by the Enforcement Directorate over financial irregularities and FERA violations.

“We are co-operating as much we can and Shukla will be the best man to handle things. He is fully aware of the whole set-up and knows what has been happening in IPL,” the official added.
