Ramesh Powar, the former India and Mumbai off-spinner, has struck a deal to play for Gujarat in the upcoming domestic season.

Powar, who has played for many years in the Ranji Trophy having made his debut way back in the 1999-00 season, would hope that he can utilize his experience to help the Gujarat team, reported Gocricket.com .

He said to the The Indian Express “[The] GCA wanted me so that I can help their junior offspinners. Basically they wanted me to pass my experience to the young players. Gujarat has good young side and they all want to excel in coming season. As a senior player, I will try to help as many bowlers I can. I know lot of players now and Parthiv Patel is also a good friend. So shifting will not be an issue.”

Prior to this Powar had been a part of the Rajasthan team. Rajasthan after legal wrangle with the Board of Cricket Control in India(BCCI) have been barred from competing this season. Thereafter Powar had obtained an NOC from the Indian board to part ways with the team.

Powar said “There is no clarity what will happen to the Rajasthan team, we don’t know what will happen in future but I wanted to play cricket.”I took the NOC and later approached Gujarat. They were looking for an experienced spinner and at the same time I was looking for any team.”
