Rangana Herath reached the milestone of 250 career wickets in Tests when he dismissed Misbah-ul-Haq during the final session of the Day 2 of the second and final Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at the Sinhalese Sporting Club. He became the second Sri Lankan and the 39th overall to achieve the feat.

Herath reached the milestone when he dismissed Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq on the second Day of the second and final Test against Pakistan at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. The other Sri Lankan bowlers to have crossed the mark are Muttiah Muralitharan (795) and Chaminda Vaas (355).

The 36-year old, whose made his Test debut in 1999 against Australia at Galle, has been seen as playing a supporting role to Muralitharan for most part of his career. Since the spin-wizard’s retirement, he has been the mainstay of Sri Lanka’s bowling attack and has been one of the mai nspinners for the Lankans along with Ajantha Mendis.

Following are the top-five wicket takers for Sri Lanka:

Bowler Matches Wickets Best
Muttiah Muralitharan 132 795  9-51
Chaminda Vaas 111 355  7-71
Rangana  Herath 57 250  7-89
Lasith Malinga 30 101  5-50
Dilhara Fernando 40 100  5-42

The left-arm Orthodox spinner reached figures of 4 for 67 with that wicket, playing a vital role in  restricting Pakistan’s progress much like the previous Test at Galle.
