Sri Lanka spinner Rangana Herath is on a record-breaking spree as he equalled Anil Kumble, bagging eighth 10-wicket haul of his Test career in the only match against Zimbabwe at Colombo. He had picked up 5 wickets in the first innings, registering the 30th five-for. In the second innings, he took 5 more wickets to add another feather to his cap. In both innings, Herath was the one to give his side the first breakthrough. In the first innings, as he bagged the 376th wicket of his career, he equalled the numbers of Malcom Marshall. He also, with the 31st 5-wicket haul, has the fifth most such spells, following Anil Kumble (35), Richard Hadlee (36), Shane Warne (37) and Muttiah Muralitharan (67). Since Muralitharan’s retirement, he also has picked the most number of wickets in Tests, bagging 312 of them.

The Colombo Test has much been like a seesaw with the momentum of the game often shifting to either sides. While Sri Lanka’s bowling has been exceptional, thanks to Herath, Zimbabwe cricketers have produced heroics, including Craig Ervine’s 160, Sikandar Raza’s 127 and skipper Graeme Cremer’s 5-for.
