Ranji Trophy 2013-14: Maharashtra close in on victory against Assam

Maharashtra were six wickets away from consolidating their position at the top of Group C.

Maharashtra were six wickets away from consolidating their position at the top of Group C after reducing Assam to 94 for 4 in their second innings in the Ranji Trophy.

 

Assam required 250 more runs on the final day with just six wickets left in their kitty.

 

Earlier, left-arm spinner Syed Mohammad achieved career best figures of seven for 50 to reduce Maharashtra to a meager 134 after starting the penultimate day on 16 for no loss at Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

 

Kedar Jadhav (34) was the highest run-scorer for the visitors.

 

Pacer Abu Nechim chipped in with two wickets while Amit Sinha claimed one scalp for Assam.

 

Requiring a stiff 344-run target, Assam lost the wickets of Parvez Aziz (31), Rishav Das (0), Amit Sinha (12) and Niraj Patel (1).

 

Opener Dheeraj Jadhav (37) and Gokul Sharma (2) were at the crease at the close of play.

Maharashtra 361 & 134  (Kedar Jadhav 34; Syed Mohammad 7 for 50) lead Assam 152 and 94 for 4 (Dheeraj Jadhav 37*, Parvez Aziz 31; Pushkaraj 1 for 4) by 250 runs.
