Maharashtra have won the toss and elected to field first against Mumbai in their quarter-final encounter in Ranji Trophy 2013-14. Rohit Motwani called heads, and decided to put the hosts to bat, citing the considerable amount of moisture in the Wankhede wicket.
Indian pace spearhead, Zaheer Khan has come back into the Mumbai team for the crucial knockout fixture, but Maharashtra are confident of competing against their fancied rivals. And putting into consideration both the team’s journey this season so far, Maharashtra have every reason to believe they can overcome their zonal rivals.
Maharashtra’s only fitness concern with Vijay Zol was sorted out in time before the match. Their star batsmen in the form of Harshad Khadiwale and Kedar Jadhav have had a wonderful run this season, and both are among the highest run-getters of the season.
On the other hand, Mumbai have been plagued by injuries to Siddhesh Lad, Hiken Shah and D Subramanian.
The last two times Mumbai hosted Maharashtra at the Wankhede Stadium, the visitors got the better of them.
