Karnataka finished on a score of 302 for the loss of two wickets at the end of the opening day of the quarter-final against Assam of the Ranji Trophy 2014-15 at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Monday. Robin Uthappa top-scored for his side with a knock of 153 off 228 balls. He was well-supported for the first wicket by KL Rahul, who scored 91 off 153 deliveries.

The duo put up a massive 194-run first-wicket stand, before the latter departed after getting dismissed after getting bowled off the bowling of Abu Nechim Ahmed. Uthappa added 70 runs for the second-wicket with Ravikumar Samarth, bringing up his century along the way. He was eventually caught and bowled off the bowling of Syed Mohammed. Uthappa had missed out on a half-century during his last three consecutive innings.

Samarth and Manish Pandey were batting on 39 and 18 respectively, adding 38 runs in an unbroken partnership for the third wicket, as Assam could do little to unsettle the Karnataka batsmen and put pressure on their opponents throughout the day. While the Assam bowling attack bore a dull look at the end of the day’s play, they were however, consistent in their duty for most part of the day as only one extra was conceded during the proceedings.
