Mumbai finished on a score of 87 for the loss of one wicket at the end of the second day of their Ranji Trophy 2014-15 quarter-final against Delhi at the DRIEMS Ground in Cuttack on Tuesday. Akhil Herwadkar and Shreyas Iyer were batting on 52 and 12 respectively, leading Delhi by 77 runs after bowling Delhi out for 166 earlier in the day.
It was a tremendous fightback displayed by the Mumbai side, who were outclassed by their opponents on the opening day of the quarter-final, getting bowled out for a paltry total of 156. Delhi had lost two wickets early in their innings, with openers Unmukt Chand and Gautam Gambhir departing on scores of 15 and five as Mumbai seemed to get the early advantage. Shivam Sharma and Virender Sehwag added a 78-run stand for the third-wicket, a partnership that briefly put Delhi back in a position of power.
Shardul Thakur decided to end the party for Delhi as he ran through the middle-order to reduce them from 98 for two to 111 for six. He finished with figures of five for 54, even as Delhi managed to gain a slender 10-run lead. Balwinder Sandhu and Wilkin Mota taking two wickets apiece while conceding 43 and 47 runs respectively.
Mumbai were looking strong in their second innings reply, with Herwadkar bringing up his half-century, as they looked to consolidate their lead on the third day of the knock-out match.

Mumbai 156 (Aditya Tare 39, Nikhil Patil 54*; Sumit Narwal 3 for 37) and 87 for 1 (Akhil Herwadkar 52*; Pradeep Sangwan 1 for 16) lead Delhi 166 (Shivam Sharma 30, Virender Sehwag 49; Shardul 5 for 54) by 77 runs.
