Ranji Trophy 2014-15: Tamil Nadu reach 234/4 vs Vidarbha on quarter-final opening day

Vijay and Shankar shared a 140-run stand for the 4th wicket to rescue their side out of trouble.

Tamil Nadu finished at a score of 234 for the loss of four wickets at the end of the opening day of their Ranji Trophy 2014-15 quarter-final against Vidarbha at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday. Vijay Shankar and Ramaswamy Prasanna batting on 90 and 10 respectively. RD Thakur was the pick among the Vidarbha bowlers, with figures of two for 31 in 19 overs.

Tamil Nadu lost Abhinav Mukund (11) after scoring 17 runs in the fifth over of their innings. Baba Aparajith was the next to depart, scoring 10 runs off 22 deliveries before running himself out. The southern side were in a bit of trouble when they lost Dinesh Karthik (four) with just 50 runs on the board, with Vidarbha looking to increase the pressure on their opponents.

That’s when Murali Vijay and Vijay Shankar came to the rescue for their side, sharing a solid 140-run partnership for the fourth wicket to steer their side out of trouble. Vijay was going good until he was dismissed by Thakur four runs short of a century. His 203-ball innings contained 13 fours and two sixes.

Thakur and SB Wagh were easily the pick among the Vidarbha bowlers, with the former taking two wickets while conceding a mere 31 runs from 19 overs, bowling seven maidens in the process.
