Part of the West Zone, Goa play most of their home games in Dr Rajendra Prasad Stadium, Margao, and the Goa Cricket Association Academy Ground, Porvorim. The team has been participating in the Ranji Trophy since 1985-86. Their first season saw them lose all their games, and they had to wait until 1996-97 to get their first ever win of the tournament. They earned their maiden victory in their 56th match, defeating Karnataka by an innings. Till date, Goa has played 160 games in the tournament with 17 wins, 67 draws, and 76 defeats. The previous season once again saw them finishing at the bottom of the table, and they will hope to put on a better display this time around. Ranji Trophy 2015-16: Delhi squad and team preview
Key players: Know for his attacking batsmanship, Swapnil Asnodkar will be crucial for Goa. He is one of the leading run-scorers for Goa, and was at his best during the 2007-08 season, when he scored 640 runs at an average of 71.11 with a highest score of an unbeaten 254 against Railways. Unforunately, his qualities were left unassesed as Goa mostly features in the plate division of the Ranji Trophy. He rose to fame once he got his chance to play in the IPL, where he was hailed by his Rajasthan Royals skipper Shane Warne as someone who could one day play for India. Sadly that did not come to pass, but with over 4,000 First-Class runs from 66 games at an average of 41.12, including 10 centuries and 21 half-centuries, the 31-year old veteran will be the key man for Goa this season.
