The ninth round of the Ranji Trophy 2015-16 is scheduled to conclude on Friday, with teams such as Mumbai, Assam, Vidarbha and Delhi confirming their qualification to the next round. The most surprising outcome of the proceedings was that Karnataka were handed a 53 run defeat by Maharashtra as a result of which they failed to progress to the next round. That is a big blow for the defending champions. Assam fought out a draw against Bengal as a result of which they progressed to the next round. Punjab and Madhya Pradesh were the two other teams apart from Mumbai to go through. COMPLETE CRICKET COVERAGE: Ranji Trophy 2015-16

At Guwahati, Assam turned out to be the better side than a strong Delhi outfit as they managed to register an interesting five-wicket win in their Group A match. At their home ground in Surat, Gujarat produced a strong show to humiliate Madhya Pradesh by a margin of 153 runs with RP Singh taking four wickets in the second innings.

Punjab continued to fumble as against Baroda, they suffered a heavy loss by an innings and 116 runs. The match was played at Vadodara, which is the home ground for Baroda. At Porvorim, Kerala slammed the home side Goa by an innings and 83 runs in Group C clash.

The matches that ended up in tame draws were between Maharashtra and Bengal at Pune, Haryana versus Odisha at Rohtak, Saurashtra versus Himachal Pradesh at Rajkot, Services against Hyderabad at Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh versus Tamil Nadu at Kanpur.
