Vizianagaram (Andhra): Opener Sagar Jogiyani and India A batsman Sheldon Jackson hit contrasting centuries with Saurashtra taking full control against Vidarbha in their quarter-final match of the Ranji Trophy cricket tournament on Thursday. In reply to Vidarbha’s paltry 151, Saurashtra scored 375 riding on Jogiyani’s 130 and Jackson’s attacking 122. Together they added 206 runs for the fourth wicket to take the match away from Vidarbha’s grasp. India speedster Umesh Yadav took 5 for 81. Having taken a lead of 224, Vidarbha were 17 for no loss in their second innings. With a lead of 207, Saurashtra bowlers will go for the kill in their aim to finish the match on the third day itself. The day saw wicketkeeper-batsman Jogiyani patiently bat for nearly seven hours to hit 17 boundaries and two sixes in 261 balls. But it was Jackson, who smacked 13 fours and six sixes in 175 balls in a knock that turned out to be the gamechanger. UPDATES: Vidarbha vs Saurashtra, Ranji Trophy 2015-16, Quarter-Final 1

On Day 1, Saurashtra were well-settled at the moment, having dismantled Vidarbha out for a lowly 151 thanks to Jaydev Unadkat’s fifer before finishing the day on a strong response of 70 for the loss of one wicket. Saurashtra won the toss and chose to field, with Vidarbha losing both their openers at the start of their innings. Vidarbha kept losing quick wickets thereafter, and probably would have been bowled out for much less than 100 had it not been for the efforts of veteran campaigner Wasim Jaffer (41 off 86 balls), as well as those of pacer Umesh Yadav (25 off 16 balls) as well as Ganesh Satish (21 off 39 balls). Jaydev Unadkat was the pick of the bowlers taking five wickets for 70 runs, including the last three wickets of the innings in a destructive second spell.

Brief Scores:

Vidarbha 151 & 2nd Innings 17 for 0 trail Saurashtra 375 (Sagar Jogiyani 130, Sheldon Jackson 122, Umesh Yadav 5 for 81) by 207 runs.
