Tamil Nadu were 104 for 5 against Baroda at tea on day two of round-one of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2015-16 with Baba Indrajith and Jagannathan Kaushik batting on 26 (42) and 3(10) respectively. The hosts lead by 70 runs after they required only the first session of the second day to bowl out Baroda for 159 in the first innings. As expected, Yusuf Pathan top scored for the away side with a 43-ball 41 that included two fours and two sixes and when the all-rounder looked dangerous for Tamil Nadu, the orthodox spinner Rahil Shah sent him back to the pavilion, leaving Baroda at 133 for 7. Bhargav Bhatt who bagged two wickets from the three dismissals of Tamil Nadu in the second innings entertained the crowd with his big hitting towards the end as scored a 10-ball 16 that included two fours and a huge six before becoming Baroda’s last man to get out.
Earlier in the day, debutant DT Chandrasekar had an excellent start to his First-Class career, as he had managed to pick a wicket in his first three overs before finishing the innings with a four-wicket haul. He shared that feat with teammate Rahil who had also claimed four wickets and it was the combination of these two that had restricted Baroda to a total of 159. The 25-year-old Aditya Waghmode became the tennager’s first wicket who was dismissed for a 58-ball 21 in the 25th over.
In Tamil Nadu’s first innings, Baba Aparajith led the scoreboard with his 90-ball 44 and only three more batsmen had their scores in two digits. The duo of Bhatt and Pathan who ahd claimed four wickets each caused the damage for their opponents with maintaining their respective economies below three and their spell made all the difference in the first innings.
