The 2015-16 season of the Ranji Trophy will witness some major transfers as senior pros like Virender Sehwag and Wasim Jaffer make moves from their traditional bases as do other mid-aged players such as Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh. Sehwag, an Indian Test batsman, with an international average of over 49 will move from Delhi to Haryana. Sehwag spent 17 seasons with his home city, but after repeated disagreements with Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), has decided to move on. Jaffer, who also played Tests for India, will move from Mumbai to Vidarbha following an underwhelming 2014-15 season.
Jaffer is just 241 runs short of the historic landmark of becoming the first batsman to reach 10,000 runs in the Ranji Trophy. Ojha moves from Hyderabad to Bengal in order to gain further attention from national selectors. “The decision was taken because to get noticed you need to be playing in the higher division, which Bengal have been a part of,” Ojha was quoted as saying by Times of India.
“It wasn’t easy, of course, because I have been playing for 16-17 years for my state at various levels. I am indebted to the support of my family, friends, coaches and support staff at the HCA, who gave me the NOC (no objection certificate) to move to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). I am fully committed to Bengal. I believe this will be a very good season for Bengal, and I am determined to do well and force my way back into the Test team,” said Ohja.
Mithun Manhas will shift from the Delhi team to his native Jammu and Kashmir in order to make way for budding youngsters in Delhi. Robin Bist will move from Rajasthan to Himachal Pradesh. RP Singh will move from his native team Uttar Pradesh for whom he played 12 years to Gujarat. Sarfaraz Khan will move from Mumbai to Uttar Pradesh. Dheeraj Jadhav will move from Assam to Goa after six years.
