Day 2 of fourth round of Ranji Trophy 2016-17 match between Assam and Karnataka was the day for Robin Uthappa and Karun Nair. The day began with Assam’s batsman Amit Verma and Swarupam Purkayastha at the crease with 268 runs for six wickets in the scoreboard. Purkayastha got out early on day two by adding only three more runs to his score. From there on, Assam kept losing their wickets but Verma remained unbeaten till the end with his score of 166. Assam ended their batting in the first innings at 325. Karnataka pacer Sreenath Aravind, who got five wickets on day one, remained wicketless on day two.
Shreyas Gopal scalped three wickets, while Stuart Binny added one wicket to his figure in this match. Coming to Karnataka batting, they had an awful start as both their openers — Ravikumar Samarth and Mayank Agarwal were out on duck. At that stage, Karnataka were four for two but Uthappa and their skipper Nair did the rescue job. Arup Das and Krishna Das got one wicket each from Assam. Uthappa and Nair both scored hundred and at the end of day two, they are unbeaten with the identical socres. Uthappa scored 108 with the help of 12 fours and 2 sixes, while Nair also made the same score in which 13 boundaries included without any six. At the end of day two, Karnataka are now at a strong position with their score of 223 with the loss of two wickets only and two main batsmen still at the crease.
