On the second day of the Round 2 of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17, Karnataka opener Ravi Kumar Samarth smashed a scintillating double century to help his side take complete control against Jharkhand in the group B match. Samarth started Day Two at the score of 118 as he went on to score his double hundred. Samarth was dismissed by Shahbaz Nadeem at the score 235 of 462 deliveries which consisted 24 cracking boundaries and 2 huge sixes. Karun Nair also played an important knock of 74 runs off 168 balls. But it was Stuart Binny who came in the latter stage if the game and went on to score 97 runs off 180 deliveries before Karnataka declared their innings at mammoth 577 for 6 at Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground.
Samarth hit 24 boundaries and two sixes in his marathon innings which lasted more than 11 hours. All-rounder Stuart Binny (97) missed out on a century by three runs while Kaunain Abbas hit 55. The highlight of the Karnataka innings was the 185-run stand between Samarth and Binny for the fifth wicket. In reply, Jharkhand were nine for no loss from five overs. They trail by 568 runs with all the first innings wickets in hand.
Jharkhand now face a colossal task of saving the match and their chance of winning it is virtually over. They can hope for a draw and wriggle out of the match with one point by batting sensibly in the remaining two matches.
