Chattisgarh are well ahead in the race against Andhra Pradesh in Round 2 of Ranji Trophy 2016-17. After Andhra Pradesh invited Mohammad Kaif-led side to bat first, Amandeep Khare scored a blistering 143 off 270, studded with 19 lovely boundaries. To add to the fire, middle-order batter Abhimanyu Chauhan scored 123 to take his team to 394. Scoring runs at rate of 3.11, Chattisgarh had an extra time to bundle the opposition twice. The track at Kalyani’s Bengal Cricket Academy Ground was sporting enough to offer equal assistance to batters and bowlers. Meanwhile, Duvvarapu Siva Kumar’s four-for kept the struggling Andhra Pradesh on course.READ:Ranji Trophy 2016-17 Points Table & team standings
All the same, Hanuma Vihari’s side could churn out only 191 in the first innings, compelling Kaif to enforce follow-on. Though Prasanth Kumar added 62 to the scoreboard, his side could not avoid follow-on, as they failed to play well as cohesive unit. However, Chattisgarh bowlers played well in tandem, with Pankaj’s Rao’s four-for taking the cake. On Day Three, Kaif and co. continued their dominance and restricted Andhra Pradesh to 122 for 4, leading by 73 runs. With one more day to go, they are likely to emerge triumphant if they take wickets in the first session.
