Ranji Trophy 2016-17, Day 4, Round 4, match results: Karnataka beat Assam by 10 wickets

There were plenty of impressive performances throughout this match but Assam's Amit verma was adjudged for Man of the Match award.

Day four of fourth round of Ranji Trophy 2016-17 match between Assam and Karnataka ended in Karnataka’s favour. The day began with Assam at 48 with the loss of one wicket and trailing by a huge margin of 197 runs. Rahul Hazarika and skipper Gokul Sharma were at the crease and added 23 more to their partnership before Assam lost its second wicket on day four. Gokul was the first one to get out after scoring 18, followed by Hazarika’s wicket as well, who missed his another fifty by six runs as he departed after making 44. After that, Amit Verma, who played a lone hand of unbeaten 166 runs in the first innings, once again came into rescue act for his team.

Verma continued his form but soon Assam lost fourth wicket in the form of Arun Karthik. Further, Verma and Tarjinder Singh began building a partnership but could only add 51 runs for fifth wicket. Tarjinder contributed with crucial 26 from 60 deliveries. From there on, Verma kept scoring but wickets too kept falling from the other end. In the end, Assam were all out for 264 and thanks to Verma’s 74 run knock and giving an easy target of 20 runs to Karnataka. From Karnataka bowling department, it was Krishnappa Gowtham who run through the Assam side by scalping seven wickets, while Shreyas Gopal got rest of three wickets.

Since it was not a big total to chase, Karnataka wrapped up the game in just three overs by winning the match by 10 wickets with both of their openers being unbeaten. There were plenty of impressive performances throughout this match but Assam’s Amit verma was adjudged for Man of the Match award. With this win, Karnataka moves to top of the points table with 17 points in their account from three matches.
