At Rajkot: Priyank Panchal’s 145 — his 14th First-Class century — boosted Gujarat’s chances against Saurashtra on Day 3, Round 5, Ranji Trophy 2017-18. However, Gujarat still trail by 266 runs.

Beginning the day at 45 for no loss, Gujarat lost their skipper Parthiv Patel early. Panchal then went on to add a 54-run stand with Bhargav Merai. However, the spinners struck as Dharmendrasinh Jadeja dismissed Merai. Gujarat further slipped to 109 for 3: Dharmendrasinh struck second time, sending Manpreet Juneja back to the hut. Panchal then found a stable partner in Rujul Bhatt (75*) with whom he added 179-run stand. In the process, Panchal went on to bring up his century before tea.

Panchal, too, was then cleaned with Jaydev Unadkat claiming his second wicket. Panchal’s 145 included 20 boundaries.

Brief scores:

Saurashtra 570 (Snell Patel 156, Cheteshwar Pujara 182; Siddharth Desai 4 for 154) lead Gujarat 304 for 4 (Priyank Panchal 145, Rujul Bhatt 75*; Jaydev Unadkat 2 for 58, Dharmendrasinh Jadeja 2 for 59) by 266 runs.

At Rohtak: Haryana managed to take the first-innings lead after bowling out Rajasthan for 150. In response, Haryana started their second essay and stretched the lead to 252.

Starting the day at 74 for 7, Rajasthan recovered well courtesy Tajinder Singh’s (38) 61-run stand with Deepak Chahar (27). However, once Ajit Chahal bagged the wicket of Chahar, the collapse began. Chahal ended with three wickets while skipper Amit Mishra and Ashish Hooda claimed 2 wickets each.

Haryana, on the other hand, had a shaky start losing three wickets for 62. However, they recovered with the help of Shivam Chauhan’s 65 and Rajat Paliwal’s 35. Their dismissals left Haryana at dismay. The onus fell on Mishra and Rohit Sharma to take Haryana’s innings to 179 for 5.

Brief scores:

Haryana 223 & 179 for 5 (Rajat Paliwal 35, Shivam Chauhan 65; Aniket Choudhary 2 for 30) lead Rajasthan 150 (Tajinder Singh 38; Ajit Chahal 3 for 52) by 252 runs.

At Jamshedpur: Jammu & Kashmir extended their lead to 330 runs after Jharkhand declared their innings at 292 for 9.

Resuming the day at 220 for 5, Jharkhand’s attempt to take first-innings lead saw a setback when Ishan Kishan was dismissed by Mohammad Mudhasir.

Kumar Deobrat (34) and Sunny Gupta (31) chipped in with some handy knocks. However, they were unable to build the lead. Aamir Aziz scalped 4 wickets while Mudhasir and skipper Pervez Rasool picked up two and three wickets respectively.

Rasool starred with the bat as in Jammu & Kashmir’s second innings. From 110 for 5, Rasool rescued them with his 74-ball 70. He also built a crucial partnership of 119 runs with Owais Shah (50). However, Jharkhand heaved a sigh of relief when they removed Rasool and Shah before stumps.
