In a cliifhanger of a game, Tripura somehow managed to escape a straight loss at the hands of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC, Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 Group C round 7 match. On the fourth and final day of the match, J&K resumed from their overnight score of 3 for 198 and posted 4 for 318 before bringing in the declaration and setting Tripura 337 to win. In pursuit of the target, Tripura kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Barring J&K s second innings, where they dominated the proceedings, it was a close game from the beginning. Fifties by Pranav Gupta, Ian Chauhan, Aditya Partap and Samiullah Beigh ensured J&K put up 315 in the first innings. With four and three wickets respectively, Mura Singh and Rana Datta were the pick of the bowlers for Tripura, who in reply managed 297 in their first innings and missed the change to take vital first innings lead by a whisker. Bishal Ghosh (95) and Gurinder Singh (84 not out) were the top scorers for them.

With a lead of 18 runs, J&K posted 4 for 318 declared in the second innings, thus setting Tripura a target of 337 on the final day. Chauhan s hundred and skipper Parvez Rasool s fifty was the highlight. In tense circumstances, Tripura batsman Rajat Dey (unbeaten 53) held his nerve to secure a draw for his team. Beigh and Ram Dayal took 3 wickets each but could not get their team over the line.
