Former champions Bengal were in steady control against fellow former champions Madhya Pradesh, as they were batting on 185 for the loss of 4 wickets, at stumps on Day 1 of Round 9 of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2016-17, at the Palam A Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday. Among the top scorers for Bengal, opener Abhishek Raman scored 36, followed by Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is unbeaten on 68, while wicketkeeper-batsman Shreevats Goswami too is unbeaten on 52. As for MP, Chandrakant Sakure managed to claim 2 wickets for 33 runs, while Ishwar Pandey and Puneet Datey claimed a wicket each. As of now, the match is evenly poised and is anybody’s game following the end of Day 1’s play.
Earlier, Bengal skipper Manoj Tiwary won the coin toss, and elected to bat first, on a foggy condition in Delhi, as they were off to a shaky start, losing opener Prosenjit Das for 3, with 29 runs on the board. 18 runs later, he was followed by Raman for 36, while just five runs later, at the score of 52, it was Sudip Chatterjee, who fell for an unfortunate duck. 26 runs later, it was tje skipper himself, who fell for mere 15, while it was then the pair of Easwaran, and Sreevats, who took good control of the innings, hardly allowing the MP bowlers any chance to disturb the Bengal innings any further.
