In Round 9 of Ranji Trophy 2016-17 Day One, Rajasthan were bowled out for a lowly 140 in their Group B clash versus Vidarbha. Bad weather conditions forced less than 50 overs in day’s play but could not prevent Rajasthan’s miseries. Winning the toss, Vidarbha’s skipper Faiz Fazal opted to have a go at Rajasthan’s batting line-up who have struggled with the willow this season. Not even a single batsman got to a fifty which states their poor outing. Every bowler from Vidarbha shone with the ball and were among wickets. Aditya Sarwate ended with three scalps along with vital contributions from others.

Rajasthan got off to a steady start with their openers taking the score to 42 for no loss in 13 overs. However, Amitkumar Gautam was the first one to walk back adding 18 off 61 balls. Manendra Singh also left soon for 27 reducing Rajasthan to 46 for 2. Rajat Bhatia looked comfortable at his end and got a start but wickets started tumbling from other end. Ashok Menaria and Ravi Bishnoi went without troubling the scorers as at one stage Rajasthan were 90 for 5.

Rajasthan needed a strong partnership to take them to some sort of respectable total but that was not the case. The only resistance was provided by Siddharth Dobal and Chetan Bist, but it could not ensure their side’s comeback. What Rajasthan needed was a big innings from someone but Vidarbha’s bowlers did not let them off the hook. Shrikant Wagh, Rajneesh Gurbani and Lalit Yadav shared two wickets each which gave valuable support to Aditya.

After bundling Rajasthan for 140 in 41.3 overs, Vidarbha ended day at 14 for no loss in 4 overs. Both the openers kept their wickets intact as Fazal and Sanjay Ramaswamy remained unbeaten. Vidarbha have a solid platform in their grasp and will like to up the ante on Day Two. Their batsmen will have to step up and compliment the stellar show of their bowlers to take a big lead in the first innings.

Brief scores:

Rajasthan 140 (Manendar Singh 27, Rajat Bhatia 26, Chetan Bist 21; Aditya Sarwate 3 for 22, Shrikant Wagh 2 for 23) lead Vidarbha 14 for no loss (Faiz Fazal 9*, Sanjay Ramswamy 4*; Pankaj Singh 0 for 4) by 126 runs.
