The second semi-final match of Ranji Trophy 2016-17 between Gujarat and Jharkhand is being played at Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground, Nagpur. Gujarat, who resumed their batting on Day Two at 283 for 3, were bowled out for 390. In reply, Jharkhand’s batting line-up crumbled but Ishan Kishan quickfire 59-ball 61 kept the side’s hopes alive as they enter Day Three. Batsmen Priyank Panchal and Manpreet Juneja began second day’s batting for Gujarat but couldn’t add much to their overnight tally. Panchal missed his 150, falling a run short of it, while Juneja made 22. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals and they were seven down for 324. Thanks to 62-run stand between Rujul Bhatt and RP Singh for 8th wicket, which helped them get close to 400.

After the departure of both RP Singh and Bhatt, Jharkhand wrapped up Gujarat for 390. From Jharkhand’s bowling department, medium pacer Ajay Yadav and Rahul Shukla got three wickets each, while Vikash Singh scalped two, followed by Shahbaz Nadeem and Kaushal Singh getting one each. In reply, Jharkhand lost their first wicket early in the innings in the form of Sumit Singh for 2. After that, Pratyush Singh and Virat Singh tried to stabilise the innings with their partnership. The duo added 45 for the second wicket before Pratyush departed for 27. Further, Virat too walked back after scoring 34. Skipper Saurabh Tiwary too could not do much as Hardik Patel got better of him when he was at 39.

Veteran Jharkhand batsman Ishank Jaggi showed his experience by staying at the crease. On the other hand, Ishan counter-attacked Gujarat bowlers with his 61-run knock, which includes 9 fours and 3 sixes. 54 off his 61 came in boundaries. Ishan looked confident but experienced pacer RP Singh claimed the crucial wicket. The second day’s play ended with Jharkhand at 214 for 5 with Jaggi and Rahul at crease. RP Singh took three wickets, while Rujul and Hardik scalped one each.

Being the experienced player, one can expect Jaggi bails out Jharkhand from trouble but taking the lead from the current situation is going to be tough task.
