The play lasted a little over one session on Saturday. Chasing 184 to win, Maharashtra resumed on their overnight total of 54/0.
The pair of Padikkal and Nischal continued batting solidly with each of them hitting fifties. They ensured their was no last day drama, building a century partnership which all but ended the opponent’s hopes of a win.
Padikaal scored 77 off 128 with the help of 11 fours and a six before becoming Satyajeet Bachhav’s first victim. By then, the visitors had reached 121 runs. Bachhav struck again in quick time to dismiss Krishnamurthy Siddharth cheaply on 4.
And when Nischal was cleaned up on 61, Karnataka were just 14 runs behind securing their first win of the season.
Mir Kaunain Abbas (34*) and Pavan Deshpande (6*) took them home as they scored 184/3 in 70.2 overs.
