Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Elite A, Round 4, Day 4: Lalit Yadav bowls Vidarbha to a comfortable win

Lalit Yadav returned career-best figures of 7/56 to star in defending champions Vidarbha's first win of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season.

Elite A Day 4 Round 4

Lalit Yadav returned career-best figures of 7/56 to star in defending champions Vidarbha’s first win of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season. His excellent performance ensured Chhattisgarh were bowled out for 143 in their second dig, leaving Vidarbha a target of 44 runs.

The slim target was never going to be a problem for Vidarbha. Akshay Wadkar (25*) and captain Faiz Fazal (20*) calmly guided the chase as the visitors made 46/0 in 19.2 overs to win by bonus point.

Chhattisgarh’s batting continued to flounder on the final day as well after they resumed on overnight total of 28/4. The visitors needed just 22 deliveries to make their first breakthrough of the morning as Lalit trapped Amandeep Khare lbw for 5.

Shakeeb Ahmed and Manoj Singh led a brief recovery. The duo stitched a 52-run stand to arrest the slide. But Lalit put paid to their hopes by breaking them apart with the scalp of Manoj (30). From 33/5, Chhattisgarh had reached 85/6 and another strike from Lalit led to the downfall of Shakeeb (31) as well.

With the innings crumbling, No. 9 Sumit Ruikar decided to have some fun hitting seven fours in an unbeaten innings of 39 off 36.

After enduring three drawn games, Vidarbha recorded their first win in four matches.

Brief Scores: Vidarbha 332/6d and 46/0 beat Chhattisgarh 232 and 143 (Sumit Ruikar 39*; Lalit Yadav 7/56) by 10 wickets
