Hyderabad opener Tanmay Agarwal scored a patient century to drive Hyderabad on Day 1 of their 2018-19 Ranji Trophy, Elite B, Round 3 match against Delhi at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. At the close of play on Tuesday, the hosts were 234/3 with Tanmay unbeaten on 112 alongside Bavanaka Sandeep (24*).
Hyderabad opted to bat against a Delhi side missing top stars like Gautam Gambhir (shoulder niggle) and Ishant Sharma (on India duty for Australia tour). But they tasted an early success as left-arm spinner Vikas Mishra removed the opposition captain Akshath Reddy on 15 in the 15th over.
He then struck again and this time sent back Rohit Rayudu (10) cheaply with Hyderabad 52/2 in 22.1 overs. However, from thereon, it was a one-way traffic as Hyderabad batsmen began dominating. Tanmay and Himalay Agarwal stitched a century partnership to leave Delhi bowlers frustrated.
Himalay scored a maiden first-class fifty, hitting seven fours during his knock off 66 off 190 deliveries. Gaurav Kumar gave his team some respite by dismissing him to break the 135-run partnership for the third wicket.
Tanmay recorded his seventh first-class century, his first for the season, and has struck 10 fours and two sixes so far while consuming 241 deliveries. Delhi bowlers toiled hard for wickets but out of seven, only two managed to taste success.
