Hyderabad huffed and puffed their way into securing a slim but vital first innings lead over Himachal on Day 3 of their 2018-19 Ranji Trophy, Elite B, Round 4 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Right after the hosts had overtaken Himachal’s first innings total of 351, Ravi Kiran was out as the last-man but by then they had taken a one-run lead.
Having started the day at a comfortable position of 146/1, Hyderabad were dealt early blows by Arpit Guleria as he got rid of Rohit Rayudu (25) and then captain Akshath Reddy who fell agonisingly short of a century by just a single run.
They kept losing wickets at regular intervals but half-centuries from B Sandeep and Ravi Teja ensured Hyderabad didn’t completely lose their way. Sandeep scored 50 off 107 before falling as the sixth wicket. However, Teja then took control of the innings and with no. 9 Ravi Kiran seemed to have put his team on course for a sure-shot innings lead.
Dagar then made things interesting when he had Teja run out for 75 with a direct hit leaving Hyderabad 339/9 and still 12 adrift of Himachal’s total. But the last pair of Kiran (4) and Mudassar (9) managed to get them in the lead.
For Himachal, Guleria and Dagar picked up three wickets each while Pankaj Jaiswal chipped in with two wickets.
